Rose Coffee Roasters

About This Coffee

This is a rare experimental coffee from Vietnam, sourced from a new partnership with Lộc Rừng Coffee. It is a blend of Coffea liberica and Coffea dewevrei (Excelsa) species grown on relatively high ground, representing under 1% of global coffee production. The cherries underwent an extended 20-day carbonic maceration in a CO₂-rich, oxygen-starved environment, followed by slow drying on shaded beds over approximately 30 days. The cup profile features flavors of red wine, grape, mango, jackfruit, dark chocolate, and sesame with stevia-like sweetness. It offers intense sweetness, a unique mouthfeel, and more acidity and fruit flavors than typical liberica/excelsa coffees.

Rose Coffee Roasters

Rose Coffee Roasters was founded in 2022 in Zurich by Matt Winton, the 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion, together with Frederic Brunner. Matt's background spans aircraft engineering in Australia and years of competition at the highest level of specialty coffee. The team, which includes Sierra Yeo (2022 UK Brewers Cup Champion), roasts exclusively on Stronghold electric roasters powered by 100% renewable electricity. Every batch is roasted to order, with a deliberate focus on brightness, sweetness, and flavor. Rose sources top end specialty lots through direct relationships with farmers in Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, China, and Indonesia. The name represents a duality Matt finds in great coffee: something simple and familiar on the surface, yet layered and complex underneath. It is a small, independent roastery with no shortcuts and no cheap blends.
