Sumatra Gajah Estate

Elevator Coffee

About This Coffee

This coffee comes from the Gayo region of Sumatra, Indonesia. Gajah Estate is named after the wild elephants that roam the forests of Aceh. The estate is located at 1200-1600 meters elevation in the Gayo Highlands, which are renowned for producing some of Indonesia's finest Arabica coffees. The coffee features Ayunda and Ateng Super varieties processed using the natural method, where only the ripest coffee cherries are harvested and dried whole on raised beds in the sun for up to four weeks. This light roast offers a fruit-forward profile with flavor notes of strawberry, hibiscus, and honey.

Elevator Coffee

Elevator Coffee was founded in 2016 by Jay Sycip and Andrew Coe in Portland, Oregon. Coe, the head roaster and coffee buyer, won the 2023 U.S. Coffee Roasting Championship and placed third at the World Coffee Roasting Championships in Taipei the same year. The roastery previously operated a cafe in SE Portland until Fall 2020, then pivoted to a wholesale and online model, roasting to order and shipping weekly. A 96 point Coffee Review score ranks it among the top roasters in the Northwest. The ethos is summed up in a tagline: roasted by nerds, not snobs.
