Kaffeekirsche

About This Coffee

This is a Kenyan AA grade coffee from the Kirinyaga region on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. The coffee is grown at altitudes between 1,500 and 2,000 meters above sea level by approximately 750 smallholder farmers who cultivate plots of about 0.2 hectares, often intercropped with macadamia, beans, or corn. The varieties include SL-28, SL-34, Batian, and Ruiru-11. The coffee undergoes fully washed processing at the Mutitu Washing Station, founded in 1963 as part of the Mutira Farmers Cooperative Society. Hand-picked cherries are depulped on the same day, sorted by density in water channels, and undergo two fermentation phases followed by a 24-hour soak in clean water. Drying takes 10-14 days on raised beds. The cup profile features white grapes, grapefruit, and plum notes with a full body, long-lasting sweetness, and sparkling acidity.

Kaffeekirsche

Kaffeekirsche was founded in 2014 in Berlin Kreuzberg near Adalbertsrasse, beginning a journey that has seen the roastery move and expand multiple times as demand grew. In 2017 the operation relocated to Böckhstrasse alongside a new cafe and bakery, and by February 2022 the main roastery had settled in Tempelhof with an attached cafe, bringing the total to three Berlin locations. All coffee is drum roasted daily, with a focus on single origin Arabica beans sourced from origins including Colombia, where Pink Bourbon from the Cauca region is among the standout lots. Their omni roast philosophy means each coffee is developed to perform across both espresso and filter brewing methods. Signature roasts like the Dark Side Espresso and Gran Galope, known for its full body and lingering sweetness, showcase the range and ambition of their roasting program.
