About This Coffee

Maracaturra hybrid varietal grown at 1,850 meters in Palencia, Guatemala by producer Juan Diego De La Cerda of Finca El Socorro. This nano lot showcases meticulous on-farm processing refined since 1999. The coffee presents complex flavors of tropical fruit, root beer, raisin bran, dates, and florals. Maracaturra is a hybrid of Maragogype and Caturra with low yields and large seeds requiring a slower, gentle roast approach to evenly roast through the center.

Torque Coffee

Nanelle and Andy Newbom founded Torque Coffee in San Diego in 2022, bringing roughly 25 years of combined experience in roasting, green coffee sales, and specialty coffee organizations, including co founding the Barista Guild of America. Nanelle handles 100 percent of the roasting on a Diedrich IR5, and no coffee leaves the roastery more than 48 hours after it was roasted. Torque operates a Proportional Pricing model in which producers receive a fixed percentage of the retail price: 20 percent on single bag purchases and 35 percent on wholesale. All paper products are recycled, FSC certified, and home compostable, wholesale deliveries use reusable canisters, and shipping mailers are made from limestone quarry waste. The roastery has earned multiple Golden Bean Awards.
