About This Coffee

This is a Geisha coffee from Peru, produced by Yulisa Carhuallocllo, a 26-year-old producer who placed 7th in the Peru Cup of Excellence. The coffee comes from her 3-hectare biodiverse farm named La Miel in Chirinos, San Ignacio, Jaén region, grown at 1,800-1,900 meters altitude. The Geisha variety is cultivated on steep slopes where honeybees aid in pollination. The processing method involves floating cherries, 18-hour in-cherry fermentation, depulping, an additional 36-hour fermentation, and 25-30 days drying on African beds. The coffee offers a clean body with expressive flavor notes of pomelo, chamomile, and mandarin.

Madcap Coffee Company

Madcap Coffee Company was founded in 2008 by Trevor Corlett in Grand Rapids, Michigan, starting with a café on Monroe Center where he also roasted the coffee. Corlett, who won the 2016 Eastern Conference United States Barista Competition and placed as high as third at nationals in consecutive years, brings a competitive barista's precision to the roasting program. The company now operates from a dedicated roastery and training space on Fulton Street, with additional locations in Grand Rapids, Leland, and a fourth café opening in Ferndale in early 2026. Revenue splits evenly between retail and wholesale, and the training facility is designed to be visible to patrons, making education a public facing part of the brand. Madcap's growth over nearly two decades has made it one of the defining specialty roasters in the Midwest.
