This coffee is a San Isidro 48 variety grown at 1,800 meters altitude at Finca Las Mercedes in the Tarrazú region of Costa Rica. It is a naturally processed coffee, sun-dried on African raised beds. The cup profile is smooth and balanced, featuring tasting notes of ripe blackberry, crisp green apple, and a sweet hazelnut finish. This microlot is grown in a regenerative, shade-grown system among various fruit trees.
Volcanica Coffee began in 2004 when Costa Rican-born Maurice Contreras started importing richly flavored beans from volcanic regions right out of his garage. What began as a side passion soon grew into a family-run specialty roaster, roasting on demand in Atlanta and sending each batch out within a day. Their approach is simple, unyielding: showcase terroir-driven, exotic single-origin beans from volcanic soils, roast them with care, and ship only when they’re at their freshest.
