About This Coffee

Small growers around Lake Tawar in Aceh Province cultivate this coffee between 900 and 1500 meters, where the region's volcanic soils and tropical climate shape its character. The semi-washed processing, a Sumatran signature that strips the fruit but leaves mucilage on the bean during drying, builds the earthy, full-bodied profile the island is known for. In the cup, dark chocolate and cedar form the base, lifted by a bright grapefruit acidity that cuts through the earthy weight.

Per’La Specialty Roasters

When University of Miami buddies Chris Nolte and Paul Massard reconnected through a birthday text in 2015, they recognized South Florida's need for a roaster that could elevate coffee beyond the dark, over-extracted Cuban style. Drawing on Massard's six years sourcing beans across Central and South America and Eastern Africa, Per'La focuses on meticulous roast-to-order precision that consistently scores above 85, showcasing the inherent beauty of coffee through established relationships with producers.
