This coffee comes from the Kanzu washing station in the Nyamasheke growing region of South Central Lake Kivu, Rwanda. Located at 1836 meters above sea level, the coffee is grown at extremely high elevations up to 2000-2200 meters in volcanic, nutrient-rich soil. The Kanzu station works with over 535 farmers registered under Rainforest Alliance certification. The region borders the biodiverse Nyungwe National Forest, which creates a misty microclimate that slows cherry maturation. This washed coffee undergoes careful sorting by flotation to remove unripe cherries and insect damage, followed by pulping and skin drying to prevent cracking. Drying takes 7-15 days depending on local conditions.
