Alt Wien Kaffee

About This Coffee

This single-origin Robusta comes from the Jember Regency in eastern Java, Indonesia, cultivated by smallholder farmers at altitudes of 800-1,000 meters in the foothills of the Argopuro and Raung mountain ranges. The coffee features WIB (West Indian Processing) method, a washed process uncommon for Robusta, which is typically dry-processed. This large bean Robusta is optimized for espresso preparation and also works well in Moka pots. The flavor profile features dry and sweet aromatic notes including chocolate pudding, bread spices, and nut liqueur.

Alt Wien Kaffee

Operating since 2000 from Schleifmuhlgasse in Vienna's Wieden district near the Naschmarkt, Alt Wien Kaffee is a roastery with deep roots in the city's coffee tradition. They roast daily in small 12 kilogram batches, and every roast is handpicked following traditional methods, yielding over 40 varieties that span strong and dry to mild and fruity. The lineup includes both Arabica and Robusta blends, with several organic and fair trade certified options among the 14 or so types of coffee available at any time. All beans are roasted naturally without additives, and there is a tasting bar where customers can try freshly roasted coffee on the spot. The roastery appeals equally to traditionalists and more adventurous coffee drinkers, and the knowledgeable baristas are known for guiding people through the range with genuine expertise.
