About This Coffee

This Kenyan coffee is from the Guama Factory, part of the Baragwi Farmers' Cooperative Society established in 1953. The factory, built in 1974, serves over 1,000 producers, predominantly women, who tend an average of 85 trees intercropped with avocado, banana, and macadamia for shade. Grown at 1620 meters above sea level, the coffee includes SL-28, SL-34, Batian, and Ruiru-11 varieties. Cherries are handpicked and delivered within 7 hours for depulping, then fermented for 24 hours with a secondary soak. The beans undergo multiple washings, float-sorting, and slow drying on raised beds for 10-14 days.

HEX Coffee Roasters

Tanner Morita, Chandler Wrenn, and John Michael Cord founded HEX Coffee in 2015, beginning as an ambitious pop-up that challenged Charlotte's coffee landscape with nitro cold brew and coffee cocktails served alongside made-to-order waffles. These three visionaries understood that coffee culture needed more than just exceptional beans—it demanded an experience that bridged the gap between Charlotte's emerging beer scene and specialty coffee's potential. Their mission centers on "bringing bright, vibrant coffees" while building "relationally based supply chains built on mutual respect," ensuring each cup tells both the story of its origin and honors the growers behind it. HEX's roasting philosophy is unapologetically focused on "unashamedly bright coffees".
