This single-origin coffee is a Villa Sarchi variety grown at 1,800 meters at Finca Las Mercedes in the Tarrazú region of Costa Rica. Produced by Mela Gamboa, this coffee is processed using the natural method and sun-dried on African raised beds. It offers a rich and bright cup profile with distinct flavor notes of dark cherry, tart pomegranate, and a smooth cocoa finish. This light roast is grown in a regenerative farming system alongside diverse shade trees.
Volcanica Coffee began in 2004 when Costa Rican-born Maurice Contreras started importing richly flavored beans from volcanic regions right out of his garage. What began as a side passion soon grew into a family-run specialty roaster, roasting on demand in Atlanta and sending each batch out within a day. Their approach is simple, unyielding: showcase terroir-driven, exotic single-origin beans from volcanic soils, roast them with care, and ship only when they’re at their freshest.
