Torque Coffee

About This Coffee

This Catigua from Santa Estela in Villa Rica, Peru features deep notes of Medjool dates and wild honey with rounded toasted almond sweetness and syrupy mouthfeel. As it cools, spiced date and hickory notes emerge. Catigua is a modern Arabica hybrid developed by crossing Catuai with the Timor hybrid, offering disease resistance and climate resilience. Produced by Kenny Vidurrizaga at Finca Santa Estela, a family-owned farm within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve recognized by the Café Villa Rica Denomination of Origin.

Torque Coffee

Nanelle and Andy Newbom founded Torque Coffee in San Diego in 2022, bringing roughly 25 years of combined experience in roasting, green coffee sales, and specialty coffee organizations, including co founding the Barista Guild of America. Nanelle handles 100 percent of the roasting on a Diedrich IR5, and no coffee leaves the roastery more than 48 hours after it was roasted. Torque operates a Proportional Pricing model in which producers receive a fixed percentage of the retail price: 20 percent on single bag purchases and 35 percent on wholesale. All paper products are recycled, FSC certified, and home compostable, wholesale deliveries use reusable canisters, and shipping mailers are made from limestone quarry waste. The roastery has earned multiple Golden Bean Awards.
