Rise & Grind is a blend consisting of 50% specialty Robusta and 50% specialty Arabica coffee. The Robusta component is sourced from Nafeesa Esmail in Uganda, while the Arabica is provided by the team at Mió in Brazil. This coffee is processed using the natural method and is grown at an altitude between 1000 and 1200 meters. It offers a flavor profile characterized by notes of dark chocolate, spice, and nuttiness, with a chewy body.
Girls Who Grind Coffee was founded in 2017 by Fi O'Brien and Casey LaLonde in Wiltshire. Fi, originally from Australia, handles brand and design; Casey, from upstate New York, is head roaster and a qualified Q Grader who has been working in coffee since 2006. The roastery sources exclusively from women coffee producers. Through their Cheek to Cheek initiative, 10% of all retail coffee sales goes directly to the women farmers and producers they work with, on top of fair pricing for the green coffee itself. Casey roasts on a Giesen, developing profiles on an IKAWA sample roaster. Each retail bag features an illustrated portrait representing the spirit of the producer, designed by Fi and her husband.
