Småstad Coffee Roasters

Småstad Coffee Roasters opened on Broadway in Sonoma, California in July 2024, carrying forward a roasting tradition started by Peter Hodgson when he founded Barking Dog Roasters in May 1995. The operation is now led by Peter's son Victor, who rebranded under a Swedish name meaning small town, inspired by childhood summers spent in Sweden with his family. All coffee is roasted on a vintage German made Probat L12, the same machine the family has used throughout its nearly three decades in specialty coffee. The new space pairs the roastery with an in house Scandinavian bakery turning out cardamom buns and lingonberry pastries daily, blending the Hodgsons' Nordic heritage with Sonoma's food culture. Barking Dog continues as a dedicated product line available through online sales and existing partners across the region.
