Kaffeekirsche

About This Coffee

This Ethiopian coffee comes from the Yirgacheffe region, specifically the Gedeb area. The beans are processed at the Chelchele Washing Station, which has been operating since 2018 and works with over 800 smallholder farmer families within a five-kilometer radius. The coffee is grown at altitudes between 1,800 and 1,920 meters above sea level on mineral-rich red-brown soils. The Heirloom varieties are hand-picked between November and January. After water sorting to select only the densest, highest-quality cherries, the beans undergo natural processing, drying for 12 to 18 days in single layers on African beds. The cup profile features blood orange, bergamot, and berry notes with a full body, pronounced sweetness, and mild acidity.

Kaffeekirsche

Kaffeekirsche was founded in 2014 in Berlin Kreuzberg near Adalbertsrasse, beginning a journey that has seen the roastery move and expand multiple times as demand grew. In 2017 the operation relocated to Böckhstrasse alongside a new cafe and bakery, and by February 2022 the main roastery had settled in Tempelhof with an attached cafe, bringing the total to three Berlin locations. All coffee is drum roasted daily, with a focus on single origin Arabica beans sourced from origins including Colombia, where Pink Bourbon from the Cauca region is among the standout lots. Their omni roast philosophy means each coffee is developed to perform across both espresso and filter brewing methods. Signature roasts like the Dark Side Espresso and Gran Galope, known for its full body and lingering sweetness, showcase the range and ambition of their roasting program.
